The Global Trend Toward Carbon Neutrality

As climate change and other environmental problems become more severe year by year, nations around the world have set the goal of carbon neutrality, introducing measures toward achieving a decarbonized society.
The Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015 as an international framework asking for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions; and various initiatives have called for information disclosure and assessment on the climate policy measures of global corporations. In addition, from the standpoint of assessing the sustainability of corporations, mainly among institutional investors, there has been a growing movement toward ESG investment, promoting investment in companies that are mindful of environmental, social, and governance considerations.
Going forward, companies and public entities will need to tackle environmental and energy issues earnestly, and to carry out initiatives that will also end up raising their corporate value and contributing to regional revitalization.

Toward Realization of a Decarbonized Society and
Promotion of Local Generation for Local Consumption of Energy

Along with heightened awareness of environmental issues, the way society thinks about energy is changing.
Conventional energy systems have typically been centralized systems; that is, power generated at large power plants burning fossil fuel is supplied via power transmission and distribution networks.
As the times have changed, however, giving rise to demands for energy that is more conscious of the global environment, the use of renewable energy, intelligent distributed autonomous power systems (IDAPS) enabling more efficient use of energy, and energy interchange have taken on new importance.

In addition to installing and operating power generation equipment and providing renewable energy, NTT Anode Energy is able to propose green power with “additionality,” directly contributing to the addition of renewable energy to meet customer needs, in this way helping to raise corporate value through the sustainable business activities of customers. Moreover, by developing battery storage facilities for NTT Group telecommunications facilities, energy management systems (EMS) for controlling local power demand and supply, and DC technology, among other developments, we are promoting efforts toward greater energy efficiency and stability.
Toward realization of a decarbonized society and promotion of local generation for local consumption of energy, NTT Anode Energy intends to expand smart energy business making use of the technologies and assets of the NTT Group.
